Day 6 - Allison

To start off our day we left our hotel at 8:00 am sharp and headed to The Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The trip took approximately 30 mins. Once at the lab we took a hike throughout the Sapsucker Woods Sanctuary. Each of us split off into groups and we kept on the lookout for various types of birds that are local to Cornell University. The trails took about an hour to circle around, start to finish. The Imogene Powers Johnson Center For Birds And Biodiversity Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology opened at 10 am, so we were able to look inside and take a look at the informative and educational theater as well as the open glass window where we were able to use strong binoculars to take a closer look at some of the animals that reside in the area without scaring off the animals.

After the visiting center, we went to the local Ithaca Bakery in town and tried some of the local homemade goods and foods, our favorite baked good was most definitely the Turtle Cheesecake.

Continuing, we drove about 15 minutes to the Six Mile Creek Vineyard and had a guided tour of the Vineyard. There, we learned about the different types of grapes and the process and aging that goes into the making of wine. The wines that were at the Vineyard were aged for approximately 9 or more months until a truck arrives to bottle their wine, making it ready to be sold.

Following the Vineyard, we went to Taughannock Falls State Park and hiked ¾ of a mile there and ¾ of a mile back to see the Taughannock Water Fall that is said to have a higher height than Niagara Falls. The scenery was absolutely beautiful and I was quite amazed by what I had seen. The temperature outside was around 65 degrees and the water from the waterfall was the perfect temperature to enjoy. In the future I will defiantly be visiting the Taughannock State Park again. Afterword’s, we visited other types of falls that were well known in Ithaca. Seeing the falls was to me such a great experience, this was because in Florida we don’t have any large hills or any mountains, so being able to have the opportunity to see other things that we wouldn’t normally see was incredible. Today’s visits were ones that I won’t ever forget.
